Privacy Policy — The Plain English Version
Last updated: January 2, 2026
This is the human-readable version. The full legal version is what applies, but we wanted you to actually understand what's going on.
The Short Version
We collect what we need to make the app work. We don't sell your data. We use AI to help with recipes, and that means some of your info goes to our AI provider. You can delete your account anytime and we'll delete your data.
That's basically it. But here's more detail if you want it.
What We Collect
Stuff you give us:
- Email and password (so you can log in)
- Your household info (who's eating, any preferences)
- Your meal plans and recipes
- Your shopping lists
- Store preferences (if you use the store guide)
Stuff that happens automatically:
- Basic device info (what kind of phone, what browser)
- Crash reports (so we can fix bugs)
- How you use the app (so we can make it better)
We don't collect:
- Your precise location (we might ask for your city for store stuff, but that's it)
- Your contacts
- Anything from your camera unless you're scanning a recipe
How We Use It
Pretty much what you'd expect:
- To make the app work — Your meal plans need to be saved somewhere
- To help you plan meals — The AI features use your preferences to make suggestions
- To fix problems — If something breaks, we need to know about it
- To make the app better — We look at patterns (not individual accounts) to improve things
The AI Stuff
Here's the deal with AI features (recipe suggestions, photo scanning, etc.):
- We send relevant info to Anthropic (our AI provider) to process your requests
- They don't train their models on your data
- They don't keep it after processing
- We don't send them anything we don't need to
If you're not comfortable with AI processing, you can skip those features entirely. The core meal planning works without them.
Who Else Sees Your Data
Services that help us run the app:
- Supabase — Where your data lives (database)
- Google Cloud — Where the app runs (servers)
- Stripe — If you pay us (they handle payments, we never see your full card number)
- Apple/Google — If you pay through the app stores
- Anthropic — AI features
Nobody else. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't do that.
Your Choices
You can:
- See what data we have about you
- Fix anything that's wrong
- Download your data
- Delete your account and data
- Opt out of analytics (email us)
California folks: You have extra rights under CCPA. We don't sell data, but you can still submit a "don't sell my data" request if it makes you feel better.
EU folks: GDPR applies. You have all the rights above plus some extras. We're the "data controller."
Kids
If you're under 13, you need a parent to set up the account. The "What to Pack" feature for kids' lunches is meant to be managed by parents, not used directly by kids.
If we find out a kid under 13 signed up without parental consent, we'll delete the account.
How Long We Keep Stuff
- Your account data: Until you delete your account
- Payment records: 7 years (taxes, legal stuff)
- Backups: Purged after 90 days
- Crash logs: 30 days
When you delete your account, we delete your data. It might take up to 30 days to clear from all backups.
Security
We take reasonable precautions:
- Everything's encrypted in transit (HTTPS)
- Data is encrypted at rest
- We use secure authentication
- We limit who can access what internally
But let's be real: no system is 100% secure. We do our best.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let you know (email or in-app notification) before the changes take effect. You can always find the current version here.
